The characteristics of sport as a socio-cultural complex

Abstract

This article reviews the basic functions of sports as socio-cultural complex of modernity. The author analyses the distinguishing features that belong to modern sports from the point of view of economical, political, and moral sides. It touches on questions like the interactions of sports with the mass media, the influence of sports on the economic sector and its political-ideological parts. The author focuses on problems that arose in the XX century simultaneously with the expansion of sports in society.
