Lacanists through the looking-glass or an “alienated egoʼs” trap

Abstract

This article deals with the issue of how the attempts to put Lacanʼs conception of “mirror stage” in the perspective of “development psychology” agree with Lacanʼs own thoughts. Simultaneously, there is a view that these attempts, being not certainly authentic, nevertheless derive from “mirror stage” itself as an event which once happened. Thus, if not by the content but by the fact of their existence, they fit for Lacanʼs initiative.
