The journal was founded in 1996 (the issue was restarted in 2006) and during the years of its publishing has become well-known in academic society. In its new form the journal continued its activity in 2015 on the basis of journal “RSUH/RGGU bulletin”, aiming at effective examination of incoming articles and discussion on the most relevant problems in its field.

On the pages of the journal during the period of its existence following main questions has been discussed:

• The philosophies of East and West: comparative research in historical and functional aspects;
• Russian philosophy as a necessary part of the world philosophy;
• Relevant problems of contemporary philosophy significant for the evolution of society;
• The specific features of modern social thought;
• Sociological studies of the groups in current Russian society;
• The expansion of statistics, experiment, and modeling in sociology;
• The correlation between theoretical and applied sociology;
• The institutes of art production in the history of art;
• The problems of complex research in the interaction between different types of art;
• Contemporary meaning of terms “genre” and “style” in art.

Leading Russian and foreign specialists have been contributing to the journal, including scholars from RAS and top-rated Russian universities. 

From the very beginning of its activity the journal has been available in the Internet, it can be also bought on the market or obtained on the terms of subscription. All these means of distribution allow spreading the new information published in the journal through academic community without any delay.

The chronicle of scientific achievements in Russian State University for the Humanities has also been represented in the journal.
